Summary
Virginia “Ginny” Rogers became a nurse not only to follow in her mother’s footsteps, but also to help herself be better equipped to help her sickly twin brother, Steve. Then, during one of her first years working, World War II erupts in Europe, and suddenly her profession and purpose becomes bigger than just herself and her family.
So, when Ginny is approached with a recruitment offer for a top-secret project in which she would be working directly under the most renowned and brilliant scientist of her time (and her highest inspiration), it’s almost a no-brainer for Ginny to accept (though she would never say such a thing to the Colonel that recruits her). Of course, working for the Army is a fact that she needs to keep secret from Steve, because there is nothing more he wants in the world than to be able to ship out and fight for his country. His health, however, has other plans.
But what is Ginny meant to do when her new mentor takes a liking to Steve, and chooses him to be the first subject of the top-secret project they’re working on? Furthermore, how is she meant to protect the only family she has left from such an experiment, when he is so adamant about denying her protection at every turn?
