  Summary

  Jemmy swore under his breath. Hold-Your-Nose Billy was walking up the street one way and Cutwater the other way, and there was nowhere for Jemmy or the prince to hide. Sure, there were other people around, but only some purse-clutchers coming out from a tavern; no one who’d let two ragged boys hide behind their pretty skirts.

  “Get ready t’ run,” Jemmy said to the prince. “There’s no way out.”

  The prince didn’t look so hot: flushing face, tapping foot, quickening breath. His jaw set as he slowly looked up from the ground and met Jemmy’s eyes. “Do you trust me?”
