Summary
Mu Qing doesn’t think about the way Feng Xin shifts closer to him. He doesn’t think about the arm slung across his stomach, gentle as if he’s going to run, as if this is some indulgence disguised as comfort. The soft sigh against his neck is a fact of the world as a whole, and so it doesn’t matter if it tightens his chest.
He isn’t thinking about it.
Except he thinks about it.
Or rather, Mu Qing remembers when Feng Xin called him a thief. The hit was as solid as the way his arm tightens now, pressing Mu Qing to his body. He remembers the sheer, vivid hatred that shone in Feng Xin’s eyes mere years ago. He remembers his hair, wrenched violently during sex after choking out A-Xin, a moment of vulnerability punished despite the frantic, desperate look on Feng Xin’s face.
Mu Qing wants to steal something. He wants to ascend. He wants to know if Feng Xin loves him. He wants to fuck. He wants to finally, actually rest. He wants to feel as if something belongs to him without it slipping through his fingers like grains of sand.
-
An excavation of Feng Xin and Mu Qing, spanning eight hundred years.
