With Anthea ill enough to need time off work, Mycroft gets a substitute assistant. Which is fine with Greg; his partner needs someone to help him keep track of everything! But, God, if the kid could keep his disdain down, that would be nice… And then work goes from bad to worse, leaving Greg entirely overwhelmed. Something’s gotta give, and some misunderstandings and uncommunicated fears get revealed – with a bit too much blood for everyone’s taste.
But maybe dealing with the fallout will lead them to something much better.Series

Greg has been seeing ghosts and hearing voices. He doesn't remember the last time he's felt warm - the last time he's felt anything, really - and he's not sure how much longer he'll last like this.
(Reichenbach was an ordeal of mess and miscommunication, and it resulted in so much unnecessary damage to everyone's relationships. Thankfully, Sherlock's learnt his lesson this time around - he's taken John with him. Problem is: he's failed to predict just how badly their conjoined disappearance would be taken - especially by Greg. When they return, it becomes clear the DCI didn't really cope at all.)
