"Zuko saw Jet talking to Katara. Who happened to be their common ex. Kind of funny, honestly. And they both managed to stay friends with her! Awesome.
Not so awesome is the way she leaves Jet at the bar and Zuko approaches with, “what were you talking about?”
In Zuko’s defense, the way he meant this question was: you’re in such good terms with your ex-girlfriend who, yes, I know, is a fantastic human being, but I swear I’m not a total douchebag and we can have nice conversations too.
What Jet most likely heard: what were you talking about with my ex-girlfriend, you bag of dicks? (Zuko doesn’t know why, but he feels like that’s an insult Jet would use.)"

When he speaks, he leans in closer and keeps his voice quiet. “You wanted to be like me, right? Then I’ve got a riddle for you.” From this distance, he can see Jet holding his breath. Zuko meets his gaze. “What is the most valuable object to be stolen from this establishment?”
Zuko is an experienced outlaw, Jet is only just starting out. Fate brings them to the same saloon.
