At the end of it all, the crew of the Vengeance builds a life together on the seaside. So, twenty years after the Blight, they’re scattered to the four winds. Hamid is revered by a cult for purifying the world of magic, even as he secretly researches the lingering power in Guivres’s and Apophis’s bones; Azu leads a wandering band of healers with Kiko and their daughters at her side; and Cel, Zolf, and Wilde roam the seas and sky with their crew of academics, searching for a way to reconnect the planes.
Cel succeeds. There is a path to reclaiming magic, though it comes at a steep price – one they will need the others’ help to reckon with.

The pirate's mouth does a funny little frown and a crease appears between his eyebrows as he scrunches his face.
“Think he might be worse than I thought.” He says over Oscar’s head, in the direction of the pale woman.
“And what are we doing with him?”
The pirate scoops Oscar’s legs out from under him and hoists him up into a bridal carry. Oscar can see the inviting expanse of white chest hair peeking through the wide V of his shirt and indulges in his addled mind's desire to rub his face against it.
