Summary
Billy is eighteen now with eight years of being a hero under his belt, six years as a father, he's doing pretty good for himself. Sure, he accidentally made a clone of his past life and his current self six years ago, but it all worked out. He's ready to take on a sidekick, being an official adult now and all that.
Luckily (or not, this isn't a very good situation for Conner), Young Justice discovered a Superman clone and Clark had no plans to train him anytime soon. Billy is totally ready to be a teacher.
(Getting called Dad was not in the plan, that's okay, Billy did want a big family eventually.)

He offered the last comment to Conner who could do nothing but nod dumbly, backing out of the large man's way. It was as Superman fished out a pan that Conner's brain began to compute again and he went to sit on one of the stools by the kitchen island. Right next to a little raven haired, blue eyed boy in a red hoodie.
“Hi! I'm Billy.”

Then he remembers what he should actually be prioritizing at the moment and immediately turns his full attention to Superboy with an encouraging smile. “Um! So, anyway! Hi, I'm Captain Marvel, it's nice to meet you, Superboy. What's your name? Nobody in the League knew when I asked. I mean, if that's not rude, I don't know if you want Kid Flash and his parents to know it or if you're even ready to tell me yet, sorry, maybe I shouldn't actually have asked.”
“. . . uh,” Superboy says, looking even more bemused. “It’s Superboy.”
“. . . oh, okay, so we're just starting totally from scratch here, huh,” Billy realizes, repressing a little wince.
“Very much so, yes,” Mrs. West says, looking resigned.

Billy doesn't really understand why everybody is looking so serious and sending Superman so many sad looks. He thinks this is an adult thing, that he'll understand when he's older.
This meeting was made to talk about Superman's clone- which makes him jealous, he wishes he had a clone buddy too -and he doesn't know why everybody is so stumped.
He guesses as an adult among other adults, he obviously has to voice his own thoughts as well.
(Which, again, he thought was kinda obvious but adults were weird like that he guesses)

Everyone remained silent for tense seconds; until, after steeling himself, Superboy took a firm step forward.
He could see quite clearly how Superman's face (a face that is home to smiles and promises of safety) was sealed in a mask of suspicion and distrust with each step he took in his direction. Superboy stops a few feet away and, after releasing a slight sigh, lifts the top of his torn suit to reveal the symbol that unites them both. The mask of suspicion gave way to one of shock, and Superboy allowed his face to relax into the beginning of a smile. It was finally happening. The reason why he was created took on a new meaning. Maybe he should no longer destroy or replace Superman; he could accompany him. Superman could teach Superboy what it really meant to be a Super...
But all hope died when seriousness and rejection flooded Superman's light blue eyes.
