With Hexside High school’s yearly prom around the corner, Amity Blight wants nothing more than to ask her longtime friend Luz Noceda to the function. It’s their last year together in school before Amity hits the road and leaves her mother behind, traveling off to finally be on her own; part of her wishes Luz would join her, but that seems like a pipe dream.
All she needs to worry about now is asking Luz to go to the prom with her, nothing too hard, so long as she can set everything up perfectly. Because that’s what Luz deserves: perfection. Someone as wonderful as she is, someone who makes her feel as carefree and happy as she makes everyone around her. That’s how she makes Amity feel, at least.
Quickly though, Amity starts realizing that the perfection she seeks may be out of reach, worse still is when a classmate of Luz’s and mutual friend of theirs—Oliver—comes into the picture.
