Maverick clamps a hand over his mouth and barely makes it back in the house in time to fall to his knees and vomit into the toilet.

Eddie, inexplicably, felt tears welling up in his eyes. Ravi cut himself off, his eyes even wider than before, but this time with a distinct horror.

“It should have been me.” He whined, hating the sound as it forced its way out of his throat, unprompted. “Not fucking Tommy.”
“Ok!” Hen’s eyes were wide, and she lifted him to his feet, pulling him along to the couch on the other side of the loft, sitting him down. He buried his face in his hands, horrified. What a way to come out to your friend.

He grasps at consciousness as he listens to Eddie moving around, the bed dipping close to him. Everything smells familiar here, like them, him and Eddie, and the bit of him that’s still able to think realizes he hasn’t been afraid of falling asleep. That he hasn’t been thinking about waking up in that other place, that he hasn’t wondered if he’s halfway to the grave, if he’s going to end up in that not quite right dream again.
That he knows where he belongs, and he wants to keep it. He wants it, desperately wants it, more than anything he’s ever wanted, and he has it, he’s not going to destroy it, and it’s a relief, knowing that.

This world is composed of muses and conductors, and ordinary people. Muses are those people born with a turn key, just like a music box, and they unconsciously release a distinctive tune. A keyhole located at the nape of their necks, muses must have their keys turned every once in a while to live like a normal person, if they don’t, they begin to rust and their limbs become rigid and, in the worst of cases, it ultimately leads to death.
People who receive keys from muses are called conductors. They are exclusively chosen by the muses, usually someone close to them, and have the special ability of listening to their muses' tunes.
Jisung is a normal person but he is far from ordinary. He isn't a muse, he isn't a conductor yet he's been listening to muses' tunes the entirety of his life. Jisung never thought, not once, that the tunes coming from the muses were beautiful.
