Summary
Every night for the last 22 years, Mercer Frey has been haunted by the same nightmare of a dark-haired woman, a cursed tomb, and a murder of crows. Brynjolf has been barely holding the crumbling guild together as its members are slowly picked off one by one through a series of arrests, executions, and accidents. When an exhausted, staving, and half-dead stranger stumbles into the streets of Riften, she finds herself caught up in a decades-long curse that somehow has much more to do with her than anyone could have realized.

The faint smell of smoke drifted into his nostrils. Maul’s eyes snapped open, as he jumped up to scan the skyline. No smoke over the city, but it had to be close. He turned to look out over the lake. A trail of black smoke rose from the grounds of Goldenglow Estate, the Guild had finally done it. Maven would be pleased, he owed someone a drink. He walked down the dock to get a better view, the sound of frantic shouting echoed in the distance. The plume of smoke grew darker.

Summary
I had about a week a few months ago where I got really into Maul from Skyrim, I stayed up all night one night writing this. My OC in this, Renette is Imperial and grew up on the streets of Markarth. This started as me just wanting to write Maul shaking someone down, and then as I was writing Renette showed up. I am considering turning this into something bigger, but I haven't decided yet.
Renette and Maul became fast friends after she arrived in Riften. Friendship turned into nighttime talks by the lake. Maul likes how much she laughs. One day she shows up at the docks while he's shaking someone down for Maven, but something feels wrong.

I obviously don't condone ANY of this, this is purely fantasy and/or character study maybe. It's like watching a plane crash. It's cool, but we don't ever want it to happen.

Maul looks around at the trees surrounding him and turns to head back to the road, when he suddenly sees a familiar pair of fine blue clothes hung neatly on a tree branch. He stops dead in his tracks and stomps over to the clothes, yanking them off the branch in frustration. Maul is practically fuming as he grips the clothes tightly in his hand, until he looks ahead and sees something that makes his brain stop working. There Hemming Black-Briar stood with his back turned to Maul, completely nude, and standing in the middle of a pond hidden in the forest.

The Jarl is a mere puppet to the commercial interests of Black-Briar Meadery, the Thieves Guild has lost its sense of honor with its good luck, and the people of Riften live in fear of just about everything there is to fear.
To a girl from Mournhold, Riften’s almost cute. It’s got nothing on home, that’s for sure. But it’s the closest thing Skyrim’s got to home, and equally important, it’s much less snowy than Windhelm. Fewer xenophobic fetchers running around, too.
She might as well join up with the local guild. Try to, anyway. What are they gonna do, kill her?
