Summary
Manu didn’t mean to cancel training for the entire team.
He just meant to cancel it for everyone except DJ.A one‑on‑one scrimmage in the pouring rain was supposed to help him shake the stupid crush on his terrifyingly short, terrifyingly talented teammate—not make it worse. But then DJ is all wet hair and sharp passes and soft, dangerous questions like, “Have you ever kissed anyone, Rat?” and Manu’s carefully controlled world slides straight into the mud.
DJ can handle late tackles, angry coaches, even a full‑blown team civil war. What he can’t handle is the way his chest hurts when Manu runs from him like he’s the one that did something wrong.
The school might be ready for extreme weather and the pitch might be rainproof,
but DJ and Manu are about to learn that rainproof isn’t the same as heartproof.
