After the fall of Xianle, Xie Lian is kept prisoner by usurper Jun Wu to lay claim to the land through marriage. Xie Lian knows that if he were not to comply, not only his life would be at risk, but also the lives of every other citizen of Xianle. Just as he is about to resign himself to his fate, he meets a mysterious man in the sea. He attempts to keep his friendship with the mysterious man a secret, but with Jun Wu circling his prey, he knows their time is borrowed.
San Lang is an immortal creature of the sea, allowed long life and magical abilities as long as he fulfills his duty to bring mortal souls to their deaths in the deepest parts of the the waters. He finds himself drawn to the imprisoned Xie Lian, but knows that the more their relationship grows, the more danger he poses to the crown prince. But just as Xie Lian cannot seem to keep away from the sea to find him, San Lang can't seem to stay away from Xie Lian, calling into question who has enchanted who.

John felt him struggle a bit more in his arms, something he should most certainly not be able to do so soon, and so he tightened his limbs around him. They were too out in the open here, it gave too much opportunity for his prey to get away or maneuver around on him for another attack. Then something else could also come along and snatch him away from John. That just wouldn't do.
