this fic has been floating around in the back of my brain since i read the books for the first time back in 2022 (2023? idk) but i had been resigned to let it die buried in the pile of Stories I’ll Never Write™ but with the new books coming out (let’s fucking gooo!) i wanted to get this out before any of the cannon changes.
anyways, this is going to be an exploration of Neil's time in Millport and how he goes from freshly dependent on and grieving his mother to whatever kind of clusterfuck he is starting in book one.
