Summary
Novelty shyness, or neophobia: nervous tendencies exhibited toward unfamiliar stimuli, often in direct conflict with a persistent curiosity surrounding the same stimulus. That was how it was described in animals, anyway.
Surely it could apply to people, too? Moving to Jinzhou left Quay with a sense of bewilderment and anxiety, an overwhelming fear of being helpless in a new place—in contrast with the understanding that familiarizing himself with the city was the single most effective solution. What if he didn’t know where something important was? What if he needed help and couldn’t figure out who to ask? If hit with multiple quandaries at once, perhaps these problems could spiral into each other and leave Quay trapped in one giant, unsurmountable conundrum…
But he could only conquer his fear by learning his way around. And so he did.

“Dear Mortefi: Do not come to the laboratory. I’ve baked an absolutely disastrous mont blanc. Just completely ruined it. I’m so sorry. (In my defense, though, the meringues were the best I’ve ever made.)”

Summary
Quay blinked. "...Did you understand that part, too?"
"Yes, yes, I understood it." Mortefi nodded again, this time adjusting the position of his glasses with a claw. "I was waiting for you to continue."
Quay pursed their lips, perhaps the first indication of any genuine negative emotion they'd displayed all night. "You seem like you're spacing out a little more than usual. Wait..."
Quay's attention fell to the small, ornate-looking glass perched patiently on the table, next to a plate that had long since been cleared. "How much have you had to drink?"

Summary
Having completed his major accomplishments for the day, Quay sets out to unwind with a long walk. He gets that and more—quite a bit more, actually. Including… a tutorial on how to use his Pangu Terminal? Does that count as “unwinding?”

Summary
“All right, everybody, slow down.”
As Quay contemplated, an unfamiliar voice rose above the whirring in the background. It was coming from behind him; someone was making their way down the hallway. Instinctively, he pressed himself against the nearest wall and hoped they would simply pass by without further incident.
It became evident when he looked to confirm the newcomers’ identity that this particular outcome was extremely unlikely.
Indeed—newcomers, plural, rather than newcomer, singular: a young woman dressed in red and white, surrounded by a gaggle of children, the oldest of whom was likely six or seven.
Quay blinked.
Then he blinked again.
What were children doing in Huaxu Academy?
