Summary
Rosemary should have been prepared. She should have known something like this would happen. Given the amount of police officers she and Laura came into contact with on a regular basis, it was only a matter of time before their luck would run out and they would see him. And they did, see him.
OR
Somebody gets murdered and the detective leading the investigation is Laura's ex husband, Nick. And the other detective is one Dan Scott from Midsomer Murders. But he’s not there much.
Edit: Dan Scott is not there and I really thought he would be, so so sorry Midsomer Murder people who's tag I blatantly abused. They do talk about him quite a bit though, if that helps.

And I'm sitting there, and he's saying all these things, and all his police friends are standing around watching, and I just can't take it anymore and I hear myself say "I assure you, she doesn't have any problems in that department."
"Rosemary!" Laura exclaimed, half awed, half exasperated.
"Laura, there was dead silence. I mean you could have heard a pin drop. So I add, ‘I think it must've been you.’ And I turned the car around and drove away."
