"Harry sits at one end of the church pew, Louis at the other, an unspoken distance between them that feels endless. Beside him, Niall is close, his hand resting softly on Harry's thigh - tentative, as if he's trying to offer comfort to both of them at once.
It tears at Harry’s heart to see the raw, swollen red of Niall’s eyes - so broken, so lost. He can’t even bring himself to glance at Louis; the weight of everything that has unfolded since last night - the unsaid words, the aching silence - keeps him frozen in place. He's terrified of what he might see in Louis’ eyes, of the distance that now lies between them.
Zayn sits next to Louis, and it feels as though they’ve unintentionally divided into two pairs, each drawn to the person they’ve always been closest to.
