There's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Varian has been groomed and abused by Saporian Andrew since their jailbreak. After Princess Rapunzel and company return from their journey, they must defeat the evil separatists in order to save Corona and Varian. Soon after his father is freed from the amber, the young boy is taken into the care of Rapunzel and Eugene. The couple have come to view Varian as their own. They're determined to be whatever Varian needs as he heals from Andrew's abusive influence. But nothing ever comes easy for the little alchemist. A secret enlightens the child to a spectacular destiny. And a creeping evil is approaching, threatening to shroud Corona in eternal darkness and its eyes are unfortunately pointed at Varian. What will become of the teenage boy? Is he doomed to be swallowed in pain and loneliness forever? Or will the light be his greatest salvation?

Eugene sighed as he massaged his temple. It had been a very long day filled with very boring paperwork, but to him it was a small price to pay if it meant getting to help people. Eugene was part of the CPD, or the Corona Police Department, and he loved his job, but he loathed paperwork.
Shaking his head, Eugene picked up his pen to continue working on the files when Pete stepped in
“Deputy Chief,” he greeted.
“Officer Pete.” Eugene responded,
“The Chief and Assistant Chief are busy currently and need you to investigate a thug who was recently caught robbing a convenience store. He’s being held in detainment room 1.”Eugene walked down the halls to the detainment room. He wondered what this ‘thug’ looked like. Was he your run of the mill type of thief or was this a different case?
Out of all the things Eugene expected, a scrawny little kid was certainly not one of them….

Eugene squints at the letter he's writing, a difficult task given the fact that the only light he has is coming from the vague, shaky candle flickering on the walls of the small carriage interior. The wheels skip along the dirt path so frequently that he has to lift his quill from the paper each time to avoid making his writing totally illegible. Not to mention the pain in his lower back, a wonderful side effect of age and carriage travel, growing considerably with each imperfection in the road that the wheels come in contact with.
He just loves business trips.
