Summary
The inevitable came when a fresh set of tears finally streaked down Ethan’s cheeks, and how could Silver cling onto his self-serving anger any longer, when he should be cradling Ethan's face in his hands, dry his lover's tears one by one? Silver gradually closed the gap between them to kiss Ethan’s tears away, whispering, “Ethan…”
“Whoever said that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ has got to be wrong,” Ethan confessed, and it was an agony in itself, to watch one of the strongest people in Silver’s life admit his woes like a Trainer whose spirit was broken completely by a devastating defeat; a compass whose lost all sense of direction, now that its mechanism was crippled.
Or: after facing a Trainer who cheated in a Pokémon battle by illegally copying the Sync Grids that solely belonged to his Typhlosion, Ethan was left with a bitterness that ran deeper than expected. Between his righteous anger and his boyfriend, Silver has to learn which hand that he needed to lovingly hold in this crisis.

“Silv, are you sure you wanna come? It’s gonna be a pretty tough hike!” Ethan looked absolutely ridiculous, his small frame supporting a backpack almost the same size as him, large hiking boots, and a look of determination not unlike when he entered into a battle.
Truly, Silver had less than zero interest in spending his Saturday and Sunday hiking along one of Pasio’s many mountain ranges; eating foraged mushrooms, and getting blisters on his feet. What he wanted to do was lay around pool side, drinking fruity cocktails that no one but Ethan (and Giovanni) knew he enjoyed, watching Ethan strut around in a pair of much too short swim trunks.
But no, here he was, about to hike.
Disgusting.

He was reliving that exact experience now, feeling like his very breath was stolen from him when the two-meters tall Tyranitar that he raised stomped back to its trainer, radiating a childlike glee that looked ridiculous on the very same Pokémon that dominated Mount Silver’s harsh terrains.

Even though the chatter around them carried on, everyone else blissfully oblivious of his woes, Lear’s world stopped anyway when the earnest curiosity in Cheren and Rosa’s faces melted into shock, and if he was reading the furrow in their eyebrows right, they were at a loss of words, too.
Or: on Pasio's anniversary, Lear finally attended a firework viewing from the Trainer Lodge. Just when he thought he had no place in a room where everyone was well-acquinted with each other, he just had to ruin it by admitting to Cheren and Rosa of how awful he was at relaxing.

An eye for an eye, an unpaid world-saving trainer from Johto for another. Arceus played in equals, it balanced both scales and if it couldn't, then it tossed a few things off the heavy one to make them equal.
Followers prattled on about fairness, but Silver kicked dust at their pristine robes and said "fuck fairness."
Lyra was more polite about it, but she rolled up her sleeves and accepted the offer given to her by a group of determined trainers.
They were both about to fight God on unfamiliar turf, because someone messed up when playing with its little jigsaw puzzles of universes, and it certainly wasn't Silver or Lyra.
