Summary
In the underground city of Pravarus, you were expected to survive, not live. Living was a privilege reserved for those born into greatness, in the building right in the middle of Pravarus. Word spread of a dangerous beauty, equal parts elegant and fierce. Rumi was great. Rumi was a symbol. And Rumi wasn’t real. That was Elena’s greatest secret: Rumi was nothing more than a mask. A character they played, a role they slipped into with ease. Rumi was an ideal, and Rumi would save the world, no matter how much of them it cost.

A muted golden glow shone from Peter's body, slumped against a nearby oak tree. He was unconscious. His skin was pale, ichor coated his hands and the plants nearby, and his palms were bleeding where he'd dug his fingernails into them. Rumi's heart ached to see him in this state. They swore that when the gods were dead and gone, this would end. Exandroth would leave by his own will or he would kill him as he'd killed the gods before him.

After a moment, Rumi felt his hands rest on their hips, tentatively, and their kiss softened as they tilted their head to coax his mouth open with their tongue. Peter was warm, and alive, as Rumi’s fingers brushed against the scars from Exandroth’s extra eyes on his cheeks.
They would defy the world with this night. A more rational person might start to guard their heart, having seen visions of what would only hurt in the future. But Rumi took that fear and stared it down, for tonight. For tonight, they had each other. For tonight, fuck the future.
