Summary
One of his barrels of salted meat had been moved (He was fairly sure birds were omnivores, at least he was.) A barrel of potatoes had been moved to hide something or someone in the corner.
Something creaked.
He moved closer to the barrel, moving his lantern to his dominant hand as he did. Someone was in here. His wings were out but puffed up as a way to make himself look bigger. Everything would be fine.
He moved one of the barrels and was met with… a kid.

Three years ago, Tommy's mother died to save them from a fate worse than death.
Five months ago, she came from beyond the grave to tell him to stop hiding from the world in their sanctuary, and to go live his life.
But how can he live when the one who makes it bearable is ash, scattered throughout the city and can only talk to him through dreams? Well, he will try anyway, since he can never say no to her. And if he finds some way to revive his mother in the process?
Then Tommy pities anyone who stands in his way.

Day 2 - Nowhere to Run
They yank him to his feet, their grip as unyielding as the cuffs. Wilbur snarls, throwing his head back in an attempt to land a lucky hit on one of these absolute animals.
He ends up making eye contact with a pair of wide, blue eyes.
(In his chest, the embers of his fire begin to stir, ignited by the presence of a life that must be protected at all costs.)
They blink, innocence and curiosity shining within their depths. Wilbur’s gaze drifts away to find a rat’s nest of golden hair, and beyond that is a set of fiery orange wings that look more like bundles of fluff than anything else.
A little boy—a phoenix fledgling, a second phoenix—sits in the arms of one of those greedy, wastes of space. His head tilts, those bright blue eyes falling onto Wilbur’s own unkempt, matted wings.
Another chirp falls from the boy’s lips, and Wilbur sees red.Series

Summary
“I’m too old for this shit,” Phil gripes, a tired look on his face as he shifts, back popping loudly in the otherwise quiet room.
Tommy laughs. “You’ll be alive for another five hundred years yet.”
“Don’t remind me,” Phil grumbles. “It had better bloody not be spent here.”
Tommy sobers fast, fear flashing through his body. “It won’t,” he says quietly. “We’ll escape. One day, I promise”
Phil hums. It’s the worst fate for a phoenix: to be captured. Humans are cruel, sacrificing others for their own gain, regardless of the consequences.
or Phil, Techno and Tommy are phoenixes who have been captured and experimented on for their healing properties. It's a guard working there that bails them out.
