“You’re full of surprises, aren’t you,” I murmur, mesmerized by the simple touch of the metal.
“Aren’t we all?” he replies in a low voice.
The shift in his tone makes me look at him, and I’m surprised by the way his face has changed within seconds. It’s softer, more relaxed. And his eyes have a mildness I’ve never seen in them before. And now that I look at him, I realize that his lips are kind of pretty—very pretty.
His hand still hovers close to my ear, and from the corner of my eye, I see it moving even closer, until I feel a frigid touch at the crook of my neck.
I shiver and flinch to the side because this inhuman coldness freaks me out.When Tav and her companions rescue Halsin from the worg pens in the goblin camp, they’re forced to make a quick escape. Through a crack in the wall, they stumble into a tunnel that leads them even deeper into the Underdark. Soon, the group splits, leaving Tav and Astarion alone to find their way back to the surface.

Predictably his somewhat suicidal attempt fails and he finds himself bound in the dungeon of his house. But what awaits him is not death and torture as he would have assumed but a suprising amount of understanding from his mother.

Etho relinquished his voice to the Raven Queen in order to keep his powers of the Weave upon being transformed into an immortal Shadar-Kai long ago. Now, he wanders the realms in search of artifacts and mementos to serve her with the help of his raven companion Yilda, until he is issued one important mission: retrieve the Tear of Lolth from the Underdark, in exchange for the return of his voice.
What had meant to be a pivotal point in Etho's independence from the deity he was made to serve, becomes much more than Etho had bargained for when he's killed in the process by a drow desperate to escape the Underdark by any means necessary.
