Drowning the hesitation in want was easy, especially with how quickly Astarion surrendered himself. A vampire ascendant deserved nothing less than a god at his side.

Astarion seemed all for it, Gale quickly realized. Surely it meant something. He would have his vampire with him, grounding him, when his head would be amongst the stars, amongst the gods.
Or, Gale and Astarion pushed each other towards ascension. They say the way to the Hells is paved with good intentions, and they both paid the price for it.

Khaslana had long slain Phainon. This time he did so earlier, letting his body rot in the burning wheat fields. He planned to do the same to the other Heirs, as he had countless times before. Including Mydei, a reminder of love from that very first cycle.
But when this Mydei saw the golden cuts on his skin and asked for his name, Khaslana suddenly desired to lie. Even when his mind was already crumbling.
So he only said, "Phainon."
(Set in one of the earliest cycles before "Khaslana" becomes "Flame Reaver". Slow burn tragedy.)
