“You’ve been avoiding me since you came back from Texas...” Buck says, a sadness to his tone that you could only notice if you knew him as well as Eddie did. “You don’t talk to me anymore! We’re living together and I barely see you! You find excuses to not hang out with me, then suddenly you start acting like Hen is your best friend? What the fuck is going on, Eddie?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t you like me anymore, Eddie?” He asks, and Eddie has to summon an almost inhumane strength to stop himself from holding Buck and screaming I love you.
“Don’t be silly, Buck, you know I do I-”
“Then why are you avoiding me?”
“I-” He can’t think of an excuse, not here, in the tight space of the ambulance with Buck this close, making Eddie's feelings expand themselves until they couldn't fit inside his body anymore “I’m in love with you.”
Or: Buck decides to confront Eddie on why he's avoiding him, one thing leads to another, and in their case, it leads to having sex in the ambulance.

From the corner of his eye he can see how Buck cocks his head for a moment before his smile returns in full force as he hugs Jee-Yun closer to his body. “Do you hear that, Jee Jee? You’re getting a whole day of uncle Buck and uncle Eddie time. Isn’t that exciting?”

“Is this…” he could hear Eddie hesitate. “Is this because of Bobby?”
If Buck had the capacity to laugh, he would. For once, he wasn’t an emotional disaster because of Bobby. He had an excuse this time.
Buck shuddered, and more tears fell, coating his cheeks and Eddie’s neck.
“No,” he croaked. He squeezed his hands tighter in Eddie’s shirt, as if begging him not to leave. “It’s because of the baby.”
“Robbie?” Eddie prodded, sounding concerned. “What’s wrong with Robbie?”
“Not Robbie.”

“I’m pregnant,” Buck blurted out.

Sometimes Buck watches Hen and Eddie from across the room, eyes flicking to where Eddie’s laughing—the easy kind, the kind he hasn’t heard in years. Hen bumps Eddie’s shoulder, something quick and affectionate, and Buck smiles like it doesn’t catch. Like it doesn’t twist somewhere deep in him. He’s happy to hear it—he is—but the warmth in his chest burns on both sides.
Some moments, it feels like Buck has been orbiting the same sun for too long, and Eddie’s light has moved just slightly out of reach. He swallows it. He always swallows it. Because Eddie’s happy. Eddie doesn’t need Buck to complicate that.
