Summary
There are certain memories, certain scars, certain people, that we can never forget. Even when they're gone, their voices stay — like an echo in the back of your mind, or a chill running up your arm. The dangers linger.
Jon wakes up in the safehouse, only to find Martin gone.

Summary
After escaping the Lonely, Jon and Martin briefly stop at their flats to gather what little supplies they intend to take with them to Daisy's safehouse.
As he's gathering his things, Martin finds his phone, abandoned months ago in his flat.
Charged, with the screen blinking to life, it begins to chime with notifications:
73 missed voicemails from 'Jon :)' -

Summary
They hold hands the entire way out of the Lonely, and all the way back to Martin's flat. Martin doesn't know what will happen to him if Jon lets go, out here in the world that's too loud, too full of people who swarm around them but don't see them, don't notice them at all. If Jon lets go, he'll be swept away by the tide, lost in the crowd—and Martin knows he won't survive it.
Jon keeps him grounded in the wake of the Beach.

Summary
How long had it been since he and Martin had been together, really been together, without the constant threat of Peter Lukas to pull them apart again? Before the Unknowing?
Jon took a deep, shuddering breath.

After leaving the Lonely, Jon and Martin pause for a moment at the top of the Panopticon. -

Summary
It was only a couple of seconds after Martin's front door closed behind them that they were turning to each other again - just like they had before, in the tunnels. Their arms slotted around each other easily, and they clung tight, seeking relief, seeking comfort. Putting everything they had into giving them back.
Finally, mirroring that moment of quiet right after leaving the Lonely, they leaned back; only to press themselves into each other even more strongly as they fell into a hard, still, just a little desperate kiss.

Summary
Jon didn’t like being touched.
Martin knew that. He knew it when Jon flinched away from Elias’ habit of putting his arm on Jon’s back, on Sasha’s teasingly light shoulder taps, on Tim’s impromptu hugs. And Martin tried to respect that.
Even if it was hard.

Summary
“Well, I mean it’s not too late, y’know,” Martin said with a small, nervous laugh. “Unless the world ends.”
“...Yeah.” Jon forced his voice to sound at least a little light.
“But you know, it was…” Martin added, quickly. “It was really good to see you.”
He reached out as he said that. It was a small movement, not even a sudden one - it looked like he simply wanted to rest his hand on Jon’s shoulder for a moment.
And Jon… Jon tensed up, and flinched away from the touch.

Summary
Jon tries to confess to Martin that he’s in love with Martin after The Lonely. This goes about as well as you might think, considering it’s an emotional conversation between two pretty insecure people after a traumatic event. (Badly.)
For the Jonmartin Week prompt: confession.

“I sort of gave up on redecorating after-“ He was supposed to be making small talk, not bringing up his second kidnapping and the fact that he’d been kidnapped enough to label one his second. “The, uh, second… kidnapping…”
Martin shrugged. “Fair. If I knew where you lived maybe we’d’ve taken some of your stuff out.”
“At least it was lost rather than destroyed by-“ And now he’s bringing up a traumatising event for Martin, Christ why can’t he just make small talk. “-Flesh. Things.”

Summary
And he saw, instantly, every little thing that had been Martin loving him from afar. Every undrunk cup of tea, every snack that appeared on his desk… all of it.
The words sat thick and heavy in his stomach, a weight he couldn't shift. He felt the floor fall away beneath him, knees buckling as he dropped, instinctively and protectively curling around Martin on the ground.
Martin didn't know he was here, not really, so he allowed himself this moment of weakness. Pain reverberated through this flicker in time, through this abject devastation, as he realised that his snubbing - however intentional - had helped drive Martin here.
To The Lonely.

Podfic of "every good intention (is interpretation)" by gruhukens.
Summary: "They’re standing entirely too close to each other in front of the hotel desk when the clerk asks them whether they’d like a double, twin, or two singles, and Martin absolutely bottles it.
‘Uh,’ he says, at exactly the same time as Jon says, ‘Oh.’
———
There’s a conversation that Martin and Jon need to have after the Lonely. Unfortunately, they are - historically - fairly terrible at putting stuff into words."

Summary
What effects did love kindled in the dismal wasteland of the Lonely have?
---
"Jon..." he gasped again in agony, almost as if Jon's touch was a lance. "Stop...It's too much...""Alright...take a minute..."
Jon stayed kneeling by the man's side, this time purposefully using his sight to check on Martin's vitals. Most were still too high or too low, but the fever had come down. He watched Martin's pale fingers clutch at his abdomen so hard he must have left nail marks. Days before, they had both considered appendicitis, gallstones, a bowel obstruction...the entire list of medical issues that normal people get, but Jon would be able to determine if any of those ailments were causing Martin to feel like this. There was nothing either could think of besides withdrawal from the Lonely. His symptoms fit with those of an addict. They almost matched Jon's when he tried to go cold turkey from reading statements.
It was clear that all those months Martin spent, with the aid of Peter Lukas, feeding into and off of the Lonely had damaged him. Months of pulling away from others...hiding away from any chance of being loved...
Who knew it would take a physical toll on him as well?

Summary
After Peter's death, Elias finds himself with unfinished business. This is not the first time that he has gone into the Lonely in search of answers, or at the very least a confirmation of an end, but this time his grief might run deep enough to extract a price.
(Or, no matter how much the deceased might loathe and detest being mourned, you cannot ask a Victorian gentleman not to grieve.)
