"Adaine?" Gorgug steps closer, and he's peering into the Oracle's face with wide eyes full of recognition. "Is it… is it really you?"

Summary
Whatever was truly happening, it was definitely very out of character for Adaine. Aelwyn had swung by her favorite bakery in Elmville, had cleared her schedule for the night, and dragged herself up half a flight of stairs before giving up and misty stepping the rest of the way.
"Good evening, sister mine," she sang as she appeared in the doorway, the tower door still closed to improve on her surprise. "Clear your schedule, we are bonding."
Adaine does not answer, which is the first sign that something is truly wrong. Adaine always snips back at Aelwyn when she gets like this: Adaine had dubbed it overcompensation mode. Even if she were merely studying, she'd at least flip Aelwyn off behind her shoulder, a gesture that has since lost its heat ever since Aelwyn joined her in the tower.

“What’s all of this?”
“Well, I was talking to Jawbone. About, well, our family. He noticed that we seemed to miss out on a lot of things that more ‘normal’ families might have done. So… I was wondering if you’d like to have a slumber party?”

There was a lot that Adaine and Aelwyn missed out on during their childhood. One such example - slumber parties. Aelwyn decides to change that.

Aelwyn still looks as guarded as ever, with her hands clasped together and a pinched expression on her face. Adaine is visibly drooping with exhaustion but she perks up a little at the sight of Riz and Pok, and she fumbles into some weird curtsey, mumbling something quietly under her breath.
"Adaine, we don't have to do that here, they're not elves," Aelwyn tells her, and she eyes Pok warily– they hadn't yet been introduced. "Is dinner ready?"
"Dinner is ready, my dears," Pok says cheerily, and he swoops into a formal bow, one that Sklonda does not recognize. "I believe I have not made your acquaintance yet, but Sklonda has spoken highly of the two of you and I have visited your homeland quite frequently, so I hope the meal is to your liking."

Adaine is not in her bed. Adaine is on the floor, heaving with the force of the coughs escaping her tiny body. Her face is smudged with soot as she coughs and coughs and coughs, and Aelwyn's gut lurches again.
"Adaine," she says, her voice coming out raspy and barely above a whisper as she rushes forwards, kneeling besides her sister. "Adaine, come on, stand up, we have to get out of here."
Adaine's head jerks to acknowledge Aelwyn's presence, but she's trembling as she drags her head to look at Aelwyn in full. There are marks down her face where the soot is running– Adaine has been crying, it would seem. "Ael–" she starts, but she's cut off by another wheezing cough, one that wracks her entire body as she weakly collapses back to the ground.
