It goes like this: Sophomore Year rolls around, and Riz is happier than ever. He's handling his magic, he's maintaining friends that aren't his babysitter for the first time in living memory, and school is a lot more fun when you aren't trying to find your missing friend or stop an evil dragon from conquering the world. There are a few snags in the glow of satisfaction, like how he has never had this many friends before, and isn't totally sure he's doing it right, or that he can't manage to figure out what the appeal of sex is, or that he still doesn't know who his dad is. But that's fine! All he has to do is keep ignoring all the things he doesn't want to think about. He's totally got this.

After a certain point, he had grown fond of slow changes, the thought of his first beard, the way his face would harden, and how his hairline would creep back before his very eyes.

A elf stutters to stop at the cockpits doorway, silver hair in his face, battered clothes with dark stains.
Silver eyes find him, bore into him.
“Get in the sky this instant!”
Gorgug blinks, his hand hovering over the series of switches.
“Um hello? Who are-”
Blaster fire screams from the landing port, voices shouting at one another, erratic and sharp.
The elf flinches, shoulders tight, a hand hovering over his side. His gaze pinpoints on Gorgug, lips drawl back in a wicked grin that steers more towards a snarl.
“Take off. Now.”
His voice thin, slight breathless catching in his words.
Gorgug frowns, catching the way his hand slips over the hilt of a steel blade at his belt.
Silver eyes burn into him, fierce fire licking at his irises.
He locks onto something else in the stranger’s eyes.
The ship whirls to life.
