Summary
Hugo told us that Grantaire was obsessed with the idea of romance and obsessed with the idea of Enjolras. He told us that Enjolras had a deep rooted love for the republic and a deep rooted hate for Grantaire. He never exactly told us how they got this way.
AKA: My novel-length (headcanoned) prequel of Les Mis revolving around Grantaire and Enjolras' history together :)

Summary
The ghosts of yesterday lurk in the corners, but his eyes are instinctively drawn to the man standing in the centre of the room. The man’s blonde curls fall around his shoulder, and the ribbon which usually binds it lies limply on the table strewn with papers and maps. A single oil lamp provides the light that glows softly around the man’s features.
An angel, devising plans for God’s next big miracle. In contrast, Grantaire is satisfied with his role as the mortal lain wasted at a table beside.

When the abc need a new place to hold their meetings, Enjolras stumbles across The Musain. But from the very first second, he’s sure he knows this cafe despite never setting foot in it before.
And then he finds the painting.
The one that is somehow, inexplicably of himself and his friends centuries ago, and during a revolutionary period.
But it can’t be them, right?
That isn’t possible.
But it really doesn’t help that the very same group is also named ‘Les Amis de L’ABC.’

Summary
“I would never ask her to defile her pride for my own sake,” Joly says because he finds it true. He respects her too much to ever even consider the thought.
This exasperates Bossuet. “Then what do you expect yourself to do?”
He’s not sure.
Joly takes another step back, meeting the bookshelf as he embraces himself. With a shake of the head, he slides down to sit on the floor. “I don’t know,” Joly whispers. “I am afraid.”

Summary
Honestly, Enjolras didn’t know what he expected of Athena’s dad. Maybe someone distinguished, since his daughter was so professional all the time. But he knew this man was an artist, and he most certainly looked the part.
How bad of a conflict of interest is it to ask your student’s dad on a date?

Summary
“You cannot just go to this meeting by yourself. It’s not up for debate,” Courfeyrac is saying. “The streets are dangerous at this hour. For God’s sake, Bossuet nearly got knifed.”
Bossuet waves from the corner. “Joly says I should make a full recovery if I don’t get gangrene. He gives me good chances.”
Courfeyrac crosses his arms. “We can’t have you running around with a knife wound in your chest, Enjolras. It drains morale.”
“And blood, I imagine,” Enjolras says, dry. “But I am not about to ruin anyone’s plans for the evening,” he says, like the very thought of someone missing an opera on his behalf is offensive.
“I have no plans for the evening,” Grantaire calls, hauling himself to a sitting position.

Summary
It is after a rowdy party arranged by Bahorel in the back room of the Musain, and everyone is starting to leave for other evening engagements, in trickles of twos and threes. Grantaire, well content to spend the night in the corner, makes no move to get up, and Enjolras glances in his direction.
“Would you be agreeable to spar with me before we retire?” Enjolras says. “The night is young, after all.”

Grantaire falls into step with Combeferre easily, delivers a smooth greeting. “Good evening, doctor. I seem to be suffering from an acute lack of sufficient intoxication. What do you suppose would constitute adequate therapy?”
“Power through and abstain in the future,” he answers honestly. Grantaire makes a show of looking disapproving.
“You did ask me as a doctor. I’m sure Joly would say the same."

Summary
How had she never caught that look before? If this is how Grantaire has always looked at her she has been so utterly inept at noticing, it’s almost shameful.
“Grantaire,” she starts, to apologize, to do something to make this right.
“If the next words out of your mouth are about the unfortunate confession I walked myself into tonight, I will throw you out with no regrets at all and a kick up the ass.”
a.k.a. Enjolras has to do some thinking about her dynamic with Grantaire

Summary
When Marius begins to pine about his new found love for a woman named Cosette, Enjolras begins to grow frustrated. And an argument sparks between he and Grantaire about the importance of love within their society. One believes that love has no place, and the other is a hopeless romantic.
And Enjolras is asexual.
He does not find any interest in sex. He has a lack of interest in performing, speaking of or learning about sex. And his friends can barely understand it. Though, with a little help from Grantaire, Enjolras soon begins to understand that asexuality is perfectly fine. And that love does have a place and a purpose in society after all.
