The cabin had been a delightful idea. After three weeks of almost non-stop cases, with both of them sleeping on the road more than they had in a real bed, as soon as the last case had been wrapped up, Sam had booked it. Rowena had needed it; a hunter's life wasn't hers, and she'd been a lot more stressed recently, a little snappy from the lack of decent sleep, which was only exacerbated by her nightmares. He was used to it, but she wasn't, and he wasn't asking her to become used to it.
They'd packed a bag, she'd slept on the drive over, turning their phones off the second they'd stepped into the place. He'd scooped her up to carry her to bed, and they'd both fallen asleep the second their heads hit the pillow, sleeping soundly until lunch.

It's 1999 and twenty-year-old Dean Winchester is doing his best to take care of Sam after their parents' deaths two years ago. It was tough at first but, after settling into his job as a closing supervisor at Hunter's Hollow's one grocery store, he's kept his head above water. Mostly.
