In this world, people have marks on their bodies mirrored to their soulmate. They can appear at any time for any reason, but typically people get them once they're adults, if not earlier.
They're not always easily visible, some take longer to get them, so finding one's soulmate still isn't easy.
Mike doesn't have a mark. Not yet at least.
Not until he opens his heart to the one who's soulmate mark, and overall cheery demeanor, is practically mocking him.

Brendan is almost your average troubled kid, just as he is your almost average rich kid. Two starter pokemon, penthouse apartment, messy room, bad grades, fancy parties and the like. Of course as a child he doesn’t have the best reasoning skills, nor deduction skills. So he knows just what to blame all of his problems on. His parents divorce! If they get back together than all is right in the world once more!
Surely his parents weren’t evil maniacs and the evil team bosses of Team Aqua and Team Magma respectively! All he has to do is set out with his pokemon under his fathers nose find his Pa and drag them back together so they can talk it out and be a happy family again! Surely that will work right? Right? -

Despite how suspicious the job is, Mike doesn’t have much of a choice; if he doesn’t get a job soon, he loses custody of his stepsister Abby.
The pizzeria turns out to be even more suspicious than Mike imagined. Now he has to figure out how all of these puzzle pieces fit together, and confront his past if he wants any hope of a future.
