His partner’s response comes slowly. First nothing, then a soft huff, then a wrinkle creasing her nose and eyebrows, face burrowing closer to his arm. Finally, her voice bubbles up, though just barely; only a small “no”, voice rasped with sleep, the sound escaping more like a drawn out “nnnnn”. Akito sighs; he isn’t sure what else he expected from her this early.
Still, he doesn’t give up. “Toya, I need to go run.” His voice is a little firmer now; maybe it’ll break through her sleepiness somewhat.
To no one’s surprise, it doesn’t.
