“Except I haven’t actually felt those things in a long time!
After I got into high school and started pulling away from my parents, it was like everything else was pulling away from me. The smell of the cafe stopped making me feel safe, because it could only keep me safe from what was outside. The warmth of my bed was only mocking me, because it almost knew I had to leave anyway. My brother’s dancing stopped making me laugh and started making me wish I could be as carefree as he is. I– I stopped being excited to see my friends, because I knew I couldn’t tell them what was going on and become a burden to them. I couldn’t sing with my soul anymore, and I just listened to the others, watching them joke together, feeling like I was just an observer in everyone else’s happiness. I felt like I could fall away, and not a single one of them would really be impacted. I felt distant and empty, and there wasn’t anything I could do about it, because how do you ask for help to just enjoy being alive again?! ... You don’t!
