The sun blazed defiantly overhead, casting long shadows over the Royal Castle of Lugunica. At its highest spire stood a lone figure clad in a billowing dark coat, his silhouette stark against the azure sky.
Below, nobles, knights, and commoners alike gathered in a trembling mass, their fear palpable, a suffocating weight in the air.
The figure's piercing gaze swept over the crowd, a predatory smirk curling his lips. His voice rang out, sharp and unyielding, cutting through the silence like a blade.
"I am the Sin Archbishop in the Witch's Cult," he declared, his words dripping with venom. "The one who represents Pride."
He raised a gloved hand, a sinister shadow spreading across the castle and the trembling masses.
"Shadow."

Wow. This was actually quite good. For a scenario that just seems like some fix-it wish fulfillment of: “What if Fourier didn’t die?” - it really has a lot of serious & nasty things that happen in it which is pretty nice to see.
Anyways, the characters. Oooh. They’re really well done. Crusch, Felix & Fourier’s dynamic is phenomenal in how it’s portrayed to be so intimate. The way the dynamic changes when Crusch & Fourier are actually an item and how Felix has to wrestle with that changing dynamic whilst he’s the figurative “3rd wheel” felt compelling.
Subaru. Huh. The changes made in this are really interesting from the way his behavior is depicted he doesn’t start out in some Capital of some world that looks like all the fantasies he’d ever wished for, but instead being accused of breaking into the Royal Palace & all the repercussions that come from that.
Speaking of repercussions… Julius & Reinhard are stellar in this. Seeing how they each interact with Subaru who’s openly known as an Otherworlder in this who may-or-may-not have broken into the Palace is really neat with how these dutiful characters treat Subaru due to that. On the topic of Reinhard, this fic humanizes him in a really good way despite the fact he initially has all he reason to treat Subaru awfully & with suspicion.
Astrea family drama is phenomenal in this. Like. Heinkel’s portrayal in this work is fantastic. The guy is actually treated like he is able to be competent & Heinkel actually gets some majorly important things done, despite the fact he is still a raging alcoholic with all the issues he has canonically. It really bucks the trend in fics where Heinkel is either treated as completely useless - or his actions are all excused - this fic has a really neat middle-ground for the Astrea family head.
