Except that Val’s interest in Angel hadn’t been waning, not in the way it should be. Val was keeping him at the studio because that was where he had control; where Angel was subject to his every mercurial whim. And Vox had a front row seat to it all: the sentimental fondlings and promises that things would be better; the gifts of trashy clothes and pills and powders that had Angel smiling up at Val like he’d hung the fucking moon, melting against him, ready to do anything - and, oh, he did, and Vox watched every second of it with narrowed eyes and nauseating arousal roiling in his gut. They were quite the picture together, all long twining limbs and elegant, expert bodies. Val’s obsession with domination (because that – that was the thing Vox could never let him have) would have him holding Angel down ruthlessly and fucking him into the couch or bed, Angel’s eyes screwed shut in some indecipherable mix of pain and pleasure. “He signed?” Vox repeated as his voice hardened and distorted, because it was now so fucking obvious why Val had done this, how could he have been so blind—
“Of course he signed,” Val said, for a second dropping the act to let exasperation bleed into his voice as Angel mumbled something incomprehensible against his hand. “He’s a fucking crackhead, Vox.” He didn’t try to hide the disdain that coloured his words, even as he released the hand that had been tangled in Angel’s hair to smooth his fingers gently against the mess he’d made of it. Angel leaned into the faux softness of Val's touch, not registering the conversation around him. “I wasn’t convinced at first, but you know what? You’ve got a good eye.”
I saw him first. A petty thought, but wasn’t that their fucking— (relationship) —partnership in a nutshell? Val dragging him down to his level yet again. Vox wanted to fuck Val into the mattress as he sent electricity through his heart— no, he wanted to fuck Angel in the last bed he’d had Val in, then send him back to the studio as dirty and wrecked as he’d been on the night Vox had first laid eyes on him.
