He does so, hating the wizard with all his considerable capacity for passion, and Stephen does the same. It leaves them squabbling like petty children or perhaps mortal enemies when they're supposed to be saving the world, and it's getting in the way of productivity.

Both drawn together and pulled apart by past trauma, Tony and Peter attempt to navigate their now connected lives. New threats are faced while politics rage, and eventually words are the greatest threat of all. Words, and the ever-looming possibility of a real, actual future. Maybe, for Tony, all hope isn't lost. He fucking hates this, always has but he promised Rhodey he’d try so here he is trying. Tony already knows its not going to work; it never does, never has no matter how well he knows or doesn’t know the person. When the door opens softly he’s already tense but he at least has the benefit of a blindfold to keep this interaction as impersonal as possible not that that’s what he wrote on that piece of paper that’s supposed to function as a guide of likes and dislikes. None of the shit on it applies to him anyways so he spent most of the time writing snarky comments.
“‘Notoriously difficult,’” a smooth, attractive voice says and Tony’s attention is peaked, “is code for ‘I’m an incompetent Dom’. You aren’t difficult at all, people are just too stupid to figure out what you actually like.”

Summary
It's not over till it's over... which basically means keep going till you get what you want, in some people's books. Roughly 2.5 seconds after the Avengers go into exile, they're coming back, ready to sign the Accords and be Avengers again. Unable to resist the political boon as far as getting other people to sign goes, the Counsel pardons them and draws up contracts with Tony Stark in order to house them in someplace appropriate (read: with someone whose dealt with hem before).
The task is wearing Tony down, though. Even as he races to come up with enough new Avengers to keep the old dynamic from setting up again, Tony is falling deeper into a funk where he's unable to invent or eat or sleep all that much, there are people all around pressuring him to do all sorts of bad ideas. But as the pounds fall off and the duties build up and fear of letting people in again piles on and Tony gets more and more irrational regarding the old Avengers, people begin to suspect that something is wrong. Very, very wrong.

“Tony’s coming,” she says and Stephen abandons his book before she even finishes the sentence, shoving his chopsticks into his food and looking around for his coat.
“Great, where are we going?” he asks and Christine rolls her eyes and shakes her head.
