Summary
An excerpt from this work:
"Suddenly I was John once more. I was young! My body free and my mind unclouded. The people I lost returned, my memories returned. I wept! Mercy! Mercy! God’s grace had cloaked me, restoring me to a time long before the darkness. But His transformation left me altered. I was not quite Monsignor Pruitt. Not any longer. I was too new, too different from the man Crockett Island would remember."
This fic follows the events of Midnight Mass, but acknowledges the inherent sexual tension between Monsignor Pruitt and Riley Flynn.

Riley Flynn.
His appearance in the crowd was miraculous.
How could I have forgotten him? I had thought so often of the once altar boy before the sickness had really started to take hold. His… incident had rocked the island. So much talking. Hateful gossip. My heart had bled for him. Bled for the young man who’s future had been taken so violently from him. God tests his strongest believers, I had told Annie as much when she had approached me all those years ago, and I had so hoped, as she did, that Riley would make it through this. I had prayed for it, prayed for his strength, prayed for his resolve. In one of my darker hours, one of anger and frustration, I had even asked God for mercy. Please could he spare Riley Flynn? For he was truly a lamb of God, and -although I dared not presume to know better-I had secretly felt this test was unjust.
But then I really started to forget. And maybe that was my punishment. Looking back with all the knowledge I have now, all the new understanding, maybe that darkness was my own reminder that I had to trust in Christ, not question him. So Riley slipped away and all my strength turned inwards as I began to face my own trial. It wasn’t until his brother, young Warren, had followed in his footsteps years later that Riley managed to surface in my thoughts once more. It was a shallow surfacing, like an afterimage. I could see him as if from a great distance, but couldn’t make out any of his details. Still, I often mistook Warren for Riley, but only in name. Riley’s face had long been ravaged by the darkness, so I had just been calling out to an echo. An echo of a feeling. And then that too had been taken from me.
Desperate to speak to Mi
here were so many things I wanted to say. So many things I wanted to beg him for. Stay, my heart pleaded, stay with me. Come with me back into Christ. Help me to turn back time, like He had done physically for us, so we could become Priest and Apostle once more. Serve me. But I didn’t say any of that. Couldn’t. There was a time to embrace, and a time to keep from embracing. To everything there is a season.
I set you free, I finally replied.
Commentw
ooooohhohoh baby I love it. Something that really scratches a specific midnight mass related itch in my brain, especially when it comes to the moral quagmire of John/Riley, is the mental gymnastics John has to do to justify his actions in canon, and how they integrate within the context of a more sexual or even romantic spin on his relationship with Riley. I love how deeply twisted John can become while still holding firm to his conviction that what he’s going is God’s will.

"Ever the benevolent island priest, he imparts his meaningful words to every congregation member of St. Patrick’s during the Sunday homily, leaving no soul unchecked. Still, always, his gaze returns to you, as if to keep you in your place in the front row. You are, after all, his favorite churchgoer."

Summary
What if Riley had seen his transformation for what it really was- a gift from God? What if Pruitt had kept everyone in the church after their transformation, like he had originally planned? As they say, man plans, God laughs, but what if this WAS God's plan?

Summary
There's an allure to places like this, one that manifests in your soul after years of the physical and mental horrors of an urban jungle. It really just makes you want to fuck off the nearest island and work until you can’t bear the silence any longer.
So I did.I still have so many questions about what took place during Lent in 2021, and what happened to the man who took me in. I've moved, but I can't escape spring's chill, nor the salty wind which still clings to me. Everywhere I go feels too close.
Dear reader, I've detailed my account of Crockett Island's final weeks and my time with the man they called Father Paul Hill.

Summary
Gemma finds the new priest exciting and charming, and he seems to have some interest in her. How much, though? More than she first expected. Things escalate and take an unexpected turn, and soon they find them in a situation where there's nobody to ask for advice, other than your own heart and wit. What does it mean to know somebody? To love them? To figure out right and wrong when things are not what they seem to be?
NOTE: this work diverges from canon as I have eliminated the connection between Father Paul Hill | Monsignor John Pruitt and Mildred and Sarah Gunning, and that I have changed the ending - the island wasn't destroyed, but they get stuck in a somewhat sucky situation still.

“No - Beverly,” his hand grasps for her forearm, his protestation grunted - but the damage is, of course, already done. The cut is already made.
His grip tightens.
And then the blood blooms at her parted skin, pulsing beautifully upwards, like a firework bursting at the peaks of the wound and trickling a velvet river down her arm.
A peacefulness has come across his face.
“Come, Father,” she demands, forcing her voice to steady action. “You must see this is the best way.”
She has him. When Beverly Keane sees an opportunity to twist Father John back under her thumb, she isn't going to pass it up.

Summary
"Father, these thoughts, they've been plaguing my mind every day."
"What sort of thoughts are they?" Ethan flushed a bright pink, and he was very grateful for the screen between him and the priest.
"Is that really necessary?"
"You must fully own up to your sins before God in order to be forgiven. So, yes. I would say it's necessary. Trust me, I know it seems awkward, but I'm here only as the middleman between you and God. I'm not here to judge you."
"Okay. Well..." Ethan collected himself for a moment. Was he really about to confess the things he wanted this man to do to him to his face?
"It's okay, Ethan." Father Paul's voice held such a fond softness when it curled around the syllables of Ethan's name.
Yes, he was going to do this.
And he was certainly going to hell for it. -

Her hand whips out and catches Pruitt clean across the face. His head jerks at the force of her blow. She tried not to touch - she did. But she couldn’t help herself.
“Judas,” she spits.
The touch of his face on her hand is too much.
She slaps him again; feels the sting in her palm. The sound rings around the now-silent hall.
"Let's put Father John somewhere safe."OR the one where I can't actually write the fic I'm trying to write and this is what came out instead so Bev is going to hang John. Because she's bored of just staring at him.
