Summary
Their socks and the skirts of their chimas were splattered with mud, water dripped into their faces and from the ends of their braids, and still Ok-nam heard and felt the thunderous booms, louder than any storm could ever hope to be, surround them like a smothering wave, like drowning in an ocean of sound. Her heart stuttered and raced with each shock wave. She could see bursts of light, angry reds and oranges reflecting off the walls where they clawed their way through the window above the meager shelter.
Lady Noh gave only the briefest of personal histories but it was enough to know exactly where she'd come from and what she'd been through.
