Christmas on Hirta was– unsurprisingly to Lockie– not really a thing. They exchanged small gifts in relation to the Solstice, talked about the night and Dubrach’s power in a way that was easy for Lockie to understand even if it wasn’t necessarily easy for him to accept, and moved on towards the end of the year without ever batting an eye at the upcoming 25th or anything that it might mean. He supposed that the coming of another religion’s savior figure probably wouldn’t mean much given their own devotion to Dubrach, but it did leave him feeling a little hollow as the 25th arrived and there was no one for him to celebrate it with. Just him and a sorry excuse for a tree in the corner to give him some semblance of normalcy, all alone.
Alone until someone came knocking firmly at his door, that is.

“Bloody gods, always so demanding,” Lockie grumbled, getting out of bed and quickly pulling his boots and coat on. “This better be worth it!”
Lockie grabbed a torch and headed out towards the beach, allowing Dubrach to guide him to the proper spot along the shore for him to find what he was being sent to look for. As he approached, the moon almost acting like a spotlight, Lockie saw a body washed up on the shore, looking crumbled and half dead. That soaked through, it was hard to tell the color of the hair on the body, but Lockie knew deep in his gut that it was red.

Or, rather, it started to make other people consider his sexuality and looking at him in a way that said ‘Oh the poor fool doesn’t even realize it, does he?’. He didn’t really stop to consider that he might have feelings for MacGregor until Georgie sat him down and said, “Look, Mathias, I love you. You’re my friend and I care about you but for Dubrach’s sake either shut up about Lockie or realize that half of your insults have actually been compliments.”

Now, here, on Hirta, with newfound love in his life, there was part of Lockie that wanted to see if a non monogamous life was right for him once again. He loved Niyathi, grew to love her more and more every day, but it had been a bit of a lie when he told Jill he could never have room in his heart to love other people. Part of him always missed having another partner to turn to for affection and intimacy. The thought of explaining this to Niyathi terrified him for many reasons, but two in particular stood out in his mind:
1) Their relationship was still fairly new, only a few months old at this time. He would hate for Niyathi to think he was getting tired of her when he really, truly wasn’t.
2) He might have fallen in love with Mathias, just a little bit.
