The bots acquire a pet. Although, the "canine" in question would argue she is much more than just a "pet"; provided she felt like talking to anyone. Really, explaining things with, y'know, words, might make this adventure less complicated for everybody. Maybe. Probably. Not really.
In which the original character/self-insert eventually decides not to function by the rules of the plot or anyone else's rules. Including the rules of being a typical, human self-insert... potential physics-breaking, universe-bending consequences of that be fragged.

This is just me playing around and indulging in my childhood fantasies, nothing to see here. Chapters centered on original characters with little-to-no bot interaction will be labelled in the pre-chapter notes. It's slow to start and somewhat disjointed, so feel free to ignore the OC stuff until it becomes plot crucial.

Once everything was in its place, Lance took out the tokens and set them in front of him in a line. The others immediately turned their gazes to it with single-minded focus. “Now comes the important part: choosing our tokens.”
Lance barely got the words out before all four paladins descended on the pieces with shark-like hunger.

The odd trio of Surna, John Doe, and Heathcliff van Bretus are making their way across the world when they get a special commission from Theris, mayor of a town nearby.
In the “further details” section, the mayor mentions that there’s something disturbing the crop growth on top of the undead issue that the commission was originally about, and says that she’ll add a bonus to their pay if they manage to solve that, too.
Seeing no downsides to this, the trio accept the commission and as fate would have it, they experience the undead issue first hand while travelling to the town, in the form of getting chased down by a myriad of undead creatures on land after they had made a quick stop to investigate a pond with an abnormally large amount of mana gathered around it.
By the way, it turns out that instead of the head like most undead creatures, the ones made by the pond near the village have to have the mana core in their chest destroyed before they finally dissipate.
Getting chased down by his (last) namesake’s undead form while it was missing a head was not something John wanted to experience again.
