Summary
Serrano, more commonly known around the Mojave as “The Courier”, finally kills Caesar. She barely makes it out of the Fort and back to the dessert with her life, and is laying against a rock bleeding. Of course it’s just her luck that Vulpes Inculta, who also happens to be fleeing the fort, is the one who finds her. Instead of giving her the quick death she’s been seeking out, he patches her up. Can a common enemy give them equal ground to stand on?
The Latin phrase “Ex nihilism nihil fit” translates to “nothing comes from nothing”, and means that everything that exists must come from a proper origin.

Summary
In the beginning, it was circumstance that led him to the Canyonlands. In the end, it was failure that brought him back. Foolish in his belief that being done with the Legion meant the Legion would be done with him, ex-Legate Joshua Graham struggles with introspection, with his old ways, and with the curious new charge who ended up face-down on God's doorstep.
Caesar ran a series of aptitude tests on select adolescent recruits for years, striking gold when his cartographer's apprentice--the boy the captures from the Salt Lake tribe called Foxtrot--tested low in empathy and high in manipulativeness. For the Fox of the Wasteland, what started as learning to map-make for the Legion and lying when he got caught by the tribals he observed, quickly became a game of espionage, assessing defenses, and exploiting weaknesses. They were all figurines to move across the playing field and he was five moves ahead... Maybe that's why he enjoyed chasing the wildcard so much.
(This is a Post-First-Battle-of-Hoover-Dam fan-fiction set in early 2281. I hope angst is your cup of tea, because it will overflow).

However, her journey to leave doesn't prove simple when she's no memories prior to her assault, and the further she travels the desert land, the more she senses she's got history that's been pushed away, even before her memories were wiped by her injuries. She's haunted by flashes of men in crimson, soldier boys, and the wails of women in rags. A man with piercing blue eyes. A boy with a kind smile. A fox in a den of bulls. As she becomes entangled in the Mojave's affairs, Esperanza wonders if it's time to confront whatever her past is and finally stop running. Even if it means losing more of herself.

Archer Caddel, the Courier, has worked to prepare the legion for said weather and is tasked to retrieve medicine for an illness that suddenly plagues the camp. He plans on handling the task alone, only for that plan to be thrown to the wind when he discovers a desert fox following him.
This work is an exploration of their dynamic, as well as the hardships that winter brings and how it effects wastelanders in the desert, turning it into a tundra. :) Enjoy.
