On Remnant, only the lucky ones are born with an aura that grants them powers. Because of this, heroes have become commonplace. And where there are heroes, there are villains that they must fight.Ruby Rose is one such hero. Masquerading as a simple flower shop owner as her civilian self, when there is trouble in her home, she takes the form of Beacon's greatest (and only) hero: Crescent Rose. For years she has worked tirelessly, defeating villains and saving people on a nigh daily basis- and it's starting to wear on her. But she keeps going; both because there is no one else who will take up the mantle... and because she may or may not have accidentally fallen in love with Beacon's most dangerous (and, in her belief, most misunderstood) villain: Myrtenaster.
No one told her being a superhero was going to be easy.
But she never expected it to be this hard.

Ruby tried to keep her focus on the board but her gaze kept going back to Weiss and in return would stare back. Ruby closed her eyes and leaned back in her chair and balanced on the two back legs. Right as Ruby thought of her move she lost balance and fell backwards causing a loud crash throughout the gym. Ruby had never been more embarrassed in her life.
Ruby needed to win this game against Weiss to get to the chess championship, if only she could focus on the board instead of how beautiful Weiss was.

Ruby Branwen-Rose is the latest in the Branwen line of vampire hunters. For generations, her family has been on the front lines, defending humanity from the various threats that lurk in the shadows.
One of her mothers disappeared without a trace several years earlier, and she's determined to get to the bottom of why. The best lead she has is Jacques Schnee, a vampire infamous for his bloodlust, his hatred of humans, and his corruption of one of the most powerful human bloodlines of all time.
If she wants to get to him, however, she's going to need some help. But with her sister out of commission, and Blake nowhere to be found, there's only one place she can think to turn.
Weiss Schnee is the second daughter of Jacques Schnee and a dhampir, having been conceived while her mother was still human. About two years prior, she infamously fought with her father and came away so grievously injured she had to enter a prolonged sleep cycle in order to recover.
Ruby hopes she has recovered, and that she's willing to hear her out. This mission would already be a big risk even with Weiss's help. She can't imagine how much worse it could go if she went alone.

Weiss ends up accepting the request given Ruby's lack of alternatives, though she notes her fame could bring unwanted attention to their little suburban life if she comes around too often. Despite this, Ruby leaves the two on their own while she heads out, leaving them with a collection of home movies that had been playing on the TV, where a small misunderstanding leaves Weiss with a lot to think about.

The two parted ways as her light traveled the world with her family, and a few years into adulthood Weiss feels somewhat nostalgic for those times. Their promise to meet again seems more of a fantasy, but just as Weiss begins to accept her fate someone new quite literally crashes into her life that reminds her of that light from long ago.
