He should flee from the alley, yell out into the street that one of the Everstieds still lives. The Sentinels will come, and drag the boy off by his battered arms. Yun will never see him again - no one will ever see him again.
Perhaps there will even be a reward. A reward enough for as many weeks in the hospital as his mother will ever need. As many cirques as it takes to make her well again.
But Yun stares into the Everstied's distinctive red eyes, and all he can see is the smirk on his own father's face.
It's enough to make the decision easy.
