In 1974, a series of letters (and illustrations) between James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes and Steven Grant Rogers were recovered. They currently sit in the Metropolitan Museum's manuscript collections archive.

The door shuts behind two tumbling bodies and both are smiling into a kiss at the senseless way they are going about this. It’s humorous that they could barely wait until they were hidden just enough that any neighbor who might be outside wouldn’t be able to see them. They had been teasing each other all day: Little touches that would cause the other to shiver, small smirks that sent thrills through both of them, and whispered words spoken low from those around them. It was a dangerous game they were playing, but the need to be together had just been too strong to not give into the occasional impulse.
