A part of Wei Ying wants to take Lan Zhan by the shoulders and shake him as hard as he can. Tell him that he doesn’t get to look so sad about this, about a bus that didn’t even kill Wei Ying, only could have. A meaner part of Wei Ying wants to say the words caught at the back of his throat, sharp like little pieces of glass. He wonders a lot of things about Lan Zhan, but this especially. How far his patience can stretch, how far Wei Ying can push before Lan Zhan gives up on him.
