Summary
Death threats are an unfortunate side-effect of being Tony Stark, so he's learned to ignore them. The problem is, when someone really wants you dead, hiding your head in the sand just kinda exposes your ass.
But it's not just Tony's behind on the line. Whoever wants him dead wants him to suffer first, and they're willing to do anything to make that happen. Tony knows there's only one way out. To save Steve, the Avengers, and the general public, Tony has to die. Of course, death isn't always the end, and Tony does what any other self-disrespecting scientist would do: he finds a way to fake his death and avenge his own murder.
The trouble is, terrible decisions usually have a terrible price, and this one is no different. Tony has a chance to save the day, but the cost may be more than Tony was ever expecting to pay…

The amount of feelings in this! Just as heavy as the summary suggests, but it does the comfort side of hurt/comfort really well too (though, my definition of hurt/comfort is weird I think). There were some points where I was plaintively wailing character names and other points where I joyfully screamed at the fluff (Steve Rogers flirting sdhfsd).
Everyone is wonderfully characterised, and the wide character-cast did not seem bloated in the slightest.
Even the tiniest of details are there for a reason. As I was reading it, everything fell into place and it was like... 'Of course!' Not to mention the plot twists! I didn't see those coming! Well, duh... but!!! MMMMH. The mystery side was fun, too. I didn't know exactly how everything would play out and I could not stop reading - I fell asleep at 3am last night.
THE THEMES AS WELL. AND THE IDEA OF MORALITY. AND TRUST.
This really should be a staple of Steve/Tony reading. It's... It really fucking well and truly shows what I love about the pairing. The fic would not have been as strong without the romance aspect - I recommend this to those unfamiliar with Steve/Tony as well.

An absolutely delightful read, with spot on characterisation and character introspection. All the characters are done well, but the Team 7 dynamics in this one are particularly stunning - even if they do seem a little out of character at times, I think it's a rational direction in which to take their character development, between past and present. And one of the most riveting characterisations of Sasuke I've seen in a while.
