When I was younger, I’d heard of this game people played on cold days. I was never too familiar with it—it seemed I was only ever just watching rather than participating, but I figured I had picked up the rules pretty quickly. People would call to one another, their breaths only coming out as a light fog in the midst of the cold. They’d gather, stand back to back, and push against one another while chanting a phrase. Their voices would become a cacophony of laughter before long—and then they’d all be warm.
Sometimes, it was more than just warming up. Sometimes, there were rules. If a circle or boundary was drawn, then your objective was a little different.
Someone had to be shoved out. But it couldn’t be you.
