It's 7:16 in Baltimore, Maryland. Andrew is sitting alone in a hotel room, trying to recover the lost memories of when he broke a promise for the first time in his life.

Kevin found a sports bar within walking distance of campus, squashed beside a tattoo parlor; both storefronts bled neon light onto the street, which spread like fog into the darkness beyond. It drew him like a beacon, like he was a deep-sea creature spotting the bioluminescent esca of an anglerfish from afar and couldn't help the way his body was pulled in by the current, ignorant of the danger ahead.
It was reasonably full for a Thursday night, and Kevin didn't have to wait long for a place at the bar. Something sticky adhered his pants to the stool, but he ignored it—he was already tipsy, bordering on the mind-numbing state he needed to be in, and he was willing to throw money at the bartender until he could no longer think about what tomorrow had in store for him.

Kevin managed to turn around and shoot a glare at her, though it might have lost the effect when he nearly fell from the movement. Neil had to catch his shoulder to not land face first into the rug.

It all came down during one night on the roof between shared cigarettes and shy kisses under the disappearing summer sun. Neil remembered the silence - so awfully long yet never awkward - between them before Andrew said :
“ Kevin.” Nothing more, nothing less yet Neil’s heart still skipped a bit hearing the name that was the cause of all his miseries. “What about Kevin ?” he asked with a shaky voice, terrified by the outcome of what he knew was inevitable at this point.
Andrew wasn’t looking at him in the eyes too busy staring at the emptiness beneath his feet. Neil tried so hard to read his expression but Andrew never gave anything away.
“What about Kevin ?” he repeated with a hint of mockery in his voice, rolling his eyes in front of a dumbfounded Neil. “You want him, don’t you ?l”.

At the moment Andrew spaced out to go back to his mental list. Said list was about Neil; he would add to it everyday with small things he noticed like: how he smelled today, what he ate, what he doesn’t like to eat, how Neil fidgets with his hair sometimes or when he grins when he looks at the foxes from a distance. He was fairly distracted until he heard Neil and Dude laughing - well Dude was laughing but Neil was smiling, which was his version of a laugh for when he liked the person but wasn’t close to them. They started talking again, infact Andrew noticed that they wouldn’t stop talking. He could tell that Neil was genuinely enjoying gushing with ‘Caleb’ about exy. And for some reason, Andrew didn’t like it.
