Even in the darkness, he could feel a glare from High Roller being sent his way, trying to find a way to blame this on him as if he had a chance to move an inch. A hand surged forward now that his safety net was back, grabbing his face and demanding some sort of answer to this, wondering if anyone was sent after them.

Hound's safety is relative, guaranteed only as long as Mole wants to keep playing with him. Hound hates it, but it keeps him alive.
He hates that he knows that no matter how flimsy Mole’s protection gets, Hound will not leave. For better or for worse, he has established his place in the gun-for-hire market. He is not Hound, the most competent killer in the city.
He is Hound, Mole’s guard dog.

Instead, Mole locks eyes with him, “I need me some company,” he says, slow and viscous like honey. It’s sickly sweet, and almost like he’s trying to gauge Hound’s reaction. “And you’re my bodyguard, yeah?”
Hound does not process the implication at all. “Yes, sir.”
From the corner of his eye, he catches one of Mole’s claws reaching for his face, but it redirects to just patting him on the shoulder. It’s gentle, like how he’d hold his face. “Keep me company then,” he says, heading to the door, and not bothering to turn around as if Hound would follow him like some dog.
Hound rolls his eyes, but picks up his plate.

On top of that, the new attendant on his usual train route won't leave Aesop alone, and it turns out the rest of the staff are in on it, too. Aesop is forced to step out of his comfort zone in more ways than one - new friends and old enemies make sure of that - and he finds Mike Morton has a way of making things complicated enough for the both of them.

Another small whine followed, this time not going unignored when he felt a hand rest against his calf. The initial touch made his leg flinch, pulling back from his scope to give Wanderer a warning glare, but he didn’t kick off his hand.
“You do realize we’re in the middle of one of our biggest missions yet, don’t you? Can’t this wait?” Hound hissed through his teeth, feeling the way the vampire’s nails slowly curled into his leg. It was through his pants leg so luckily he didn’t feel much other than pressure, but he knew how easily those could cut flesh.
Those silent, pleading eyes didn’t waver, but he knew if he seriously told Wanderer to back off, he would.
“Fine. If you’re so damn hungry, feed.”

But alas, the past eludes him, the future woes him, and at the present, all he has is an empty glass of whiskey and a growing headache. His partner- he had a work partner, didn’t he? Was missing in all of this. And the most annoying of matters was that he had Norton’s coat and keys.
