Arthur digs the sword into the wound from earlier, watches the red pearls gather. He feels sturdy, sure. The tremors he expected in his hands do not come, as if he has already made his decision. Emerys stands just as tall, no fear in his eyes. All the magic in the world, Arthur thinks, gathered in his palms, and yet he allows himself to be marred by mere steel. Everything he is, everything he has ever hoped to achieve is balanced on the end of this sword, and dipped in red.

Morgana puts two and two together and realized exactly how Arthur always manages to come out on top. Without access to his magic, Morgana and Morgause capture Merlin along with Arthur, Uther and Gaius. And so, for the first time in a long time, Morgana gets just about everything she wants while her enemies sit in the dungeon and wait to starve.
(Somewhat based on S3EP13 The Coming of Arthur Part 2. So, I guess what you might need to know to understand this is that 1 Morgana knows about Merlin’s magic and 2 Morgause has already made an alliance with Helios, so they have both his army and Essteirs army on their side. As only second in line for the throne, Arthur should have expected to one day be sent off to marry a princess far away. He hadn't expected it. On the envelope, of a beautiful, almost shimmery gold, there was curling script with the apartment address, and both of their names, together. Matthew and Ramdas. Weird. The return address didn't look like anything special, just addressed as Holiday Cheer, 12 Days of Christmas, Inc.
On paper made to look old fashioned, though still a fancy color, dyed almost like the dark green of a forest, was more of the curling script. This time, it was in a bright gold ink, looking like the actual metal itself was melted down to be used on the page. It did not have either of their names again, nor any name signed at the end, nor even the typical "Happy Holidays" or something. Instead, it looked like a single verse from the long Christmas song.
On the fifth day of Christmas,
