Summary
Optimus tells the Autobots after the fight in Hong Kong that the safest place for them would be Griffin Rock, even in its extremely accident prone state. The people there either don’t know that Cybertronians exist or they don’t care as the Rescue Bots have never deliberately caused any harm. He tells Cade that he should go with them for his own safety and he does.
The Autobots end up teaching the Rescue Bots a few things about war, and just in time too as somehow Lockdown had been revived. Unlucky for Lockdown, so has Ratchet.

Megatron handles it with pride, frustration, and the occasional existential crisis about how familiar a certain archivist still feels.They argue, they lead, they follow — and maybe, somewhere between the ruins of Iacon and the quiet hum of dawn, they remember what it was like before war split them apart.

The figure seemed to already have noticed your presence. It shifted slightly, and the desert air seemed to vibrate with a low hum. The sensation of electricity grew stronger, and you could feel it humming through your bones. The figure took a step forward, and you saw that it was indeed a Robot, a being from another world or dimension, come to life right before your eyes. You knew it wasn´t human made. It´s shape, it´s way to move – all o fit brought back memories you had long ago abandoned.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The robots gaze—or whatever it used to perceive its surroundings—was locked on you. It was as if it was assessing you, evaluating whether it should act or not. In the end it just let out a defeated beeping sound.

When the Decepticons, desperate for somebot who actually knows how to do repairs, kidnap Ratchet, he's fairly sure this is the end. At least until he sees how their medic, Hook, treats patients. With rescue pushed far from his processor, Ratchet sets to teaching the smug perfectionist proper medical procedure by hook or by crook, dragging the rest of his gestalt along with him.

Summary
Iacon remains the last stronghold of the Autobot Faction on Cybertron. In order to make a proper stand against the Decepticons, Optimus Prime needs his High Command united. Old rivalries and distrust do their best to make that impossible.
Ironhide is blinded by her duty as the last mech standing of Cybertron's oldest legion, the Primesguard. Jazz and Prowl, according to the whispers of both Decepticons and Autobots alike, are dangerous remnants of Sentinel Prime's regime who need to be removed. Ratchet pretends he isn't dealing with a conflict of interest when it comes to a certain figure from his past who stands on the other side.
There are only two options: Unite and endure, or divide and fall.
But in the midsts of the final battle of Cybertron unfolding, a sudden unexpected arrival may turn the world upside down, and finally unite High Command.
If only the price wasn't so steep...
This story is a prequel to prodigal, but it can be read as a stand-alone work.
