Summary
In a rotting laboratory deep beneath Arkham Hospital, a man recalls the horrors he witnessed at the hands of his former friend, Lance Victor Vetzch—a once-brilliant medical student obsessed with conquering death. Vetzch’s descent into madness began with animals, but soon his experiments turned to human corpses, stolen from graves and stripped of identity. Drawn in by curiosity and manipulated by Vetzch’s charm, the narrator becomes entangled in his sick ambitions, housing him and watching as Taylor, his fiancée, grows increasingly wary. Vetzch, a misanthrope with godlike delusions, conducts vile procedures in the basement, assembling grotesque creatures from body parts in a warped attempt to cheat mortality. The narrator, disgusted and horrified, reaches a breaking point when a twitching abomination is discovered in a graveyard.
